Philip is a Managing Partner of Hyannis Harbor Tours, Inc. (dba: Hy-Line Cruises) along with his brother, R. Murray Scudder, Jr.The corporation was founded in 1962 by his father, Richard M. Scudder, Sr. and Richard’s brother, Robert.
Philip began working at the Company summers while in high school and into college and after receiving a BFA from the University of Connecticut, he moved back to the Cape and began working with his family full-time.
He studied and received his Captain’s license while working as part of the operating crew aboard the Island Ferries for several years before coming ashore to become the company’s Maintenance Manager then Director of Marketing.
He’s served on various Boards and committees for the Hyannis and Cape Cod Chambers of Commerce, Hyannis Main Street Business Improvement District, Cape Cod Economic Roundtable, and was also a member of the Town of Barnstable’s Economic Development Commission.
He’s been married to his wife, Sherrie, approaching 49 years. They met in college and worked together in summer theatre in Connecticut before moving back to the Cape in 1976.
They have two children and 3 grandsons. Daughter, Jennie, is a veterinarian in Connecticut and lives with her husband and their two boys, 8 and 5 years old.
Their son, Thomas, lives in New York where he is in his second year of a Ph.D. program at the University of Rochester. Thomas and his wife celebrated their son’s first birthday on September 11, 2024.
