Barnstable County Sheriff Testifies In Favor Of PROTECT Act

Barnstable County Sheriff Donna Buckley testified on Beacon Hill in favor of the PROTECT Act.

The proposed legislation aims to bolster due-process rights for immigrants, impose strict limits on 287(g) agreements, and prohibit civil immigration arrests in and around courthouses without a judicial warrant.

Sheriff Buckley told the House Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security under no circumstances should state employees be used to do the work of ICE.

The sheriff says it doesn't make sense to continue the agreement, and it doesn't serve a public safety purpose.
