Cape And Islands Residents Urged To Prepare Pipes For Extreme Weekend Cold

Cape and Islands residents and property owners are reminded to prepare for risk of frozen or burst water pipes as extreme cold hits the region this weekend.

Frozen pipes can cause significant property damage and service disruptions, especially in older buildings or homes that are unoccupied during the winter.

To help prevent frozen pipes the heat should be kept at least 55-degrees in all buildings, including seasonal or vacant properties and cabinet doors under sinks should be left open to allow warm air to circulate around the plumbing.

Leaving a thin stream of water running from a faucet is also recommended.
