Barnstable County Sheriff Donna Buckley is thankful that federal officials rescinded the cancelation of grant funding for the Expanded Medication Assisted Treatment [[ EMAT ]] program.
In a social media post, Sheriff Buckley says the silver lining out of the matter has been the outpouring of support for substance abuse and mental health treatment voiced locally and nationwide.
The Sheriff says addiction treatment works, leading to less crime and fewer victims.
Funding for the program was put back in place just 24-hours after it was cancelled.
Buckley says while there will be no service interruption, it has eroded trust in the federal grant process.
