A positive fecal indicator test is causing the Yarmouth Water Department to close a well.
The department issued an alert on Sunday saying one of its 24 wells tested positive for the fecal indicator enterococci..
The department says the well was turned off as a precautionary measure and the positive test was collected from an untreated sample.
No treated samples tested positive for the indicator.
Officials say there is no threat to public health and the well will not be turned back on until it's approved by the Department of Environmental Protection.
