Cape Cod Community College President John Cox is now on paid administrative leave.
The school's Board of Trustees announced the decision by email on Thursday.
The board's president later said in a letter to the college that the move was the result of an ongoing personnel matter.
Four C's VP of finance and operations, Chris Clark, will serve as the school's leader until further notice.
