Massachusetts Senator Calls For Senate To Act To Keep People Healthy

If the federal government shutdown continues until November, families depending on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will not receive their benefits.

Massachusetts Senator Ed Markey says the White House is standing in the way of the livelihoods of the American people.

The Senator says that if SNAP is unable to pay benefits about a million residents will go hungry.

There are more than 400 thousand people in Connecticut that also receive SNAP benefits.
