State Representative Steve Xiarhos has voted for a House measure enhancing child welfare protections.
The bill passed by a vote of 159 to 1.
Xiarhos, who represents the Fifth Barnstable District, says it's a strong, bipartisan effort to improve communication and coordination among agencies that serve children in foster care and those receiving state services.
The measure streamlines reporting within the DCF, strengthens the independence and oversight of the Office of the Child Advocate, and improves transparency and accountability across the child welfare system.
The bill now moves to the Senate.
