Personnel on a Steamship Authority ferry notified authorities after spotting a person in the ocean near Woods Hole at around 3:20 Monday afternoon.

The Coast Guard, Falmouth Fire and Environmental police responded to search for the individual in weather conditions impacted by a nor'easter moving through the area.

The man was located shortly before 5 p.m. and hoisted onto a helicopter. The man was taken to Falmouth Hospital to be treated for exposure and authorities say he did not suffer serious injuries.

It's not clear how the man ended up in the water and the incident is under investigation.
