Sandwich police officer Craig Hatfield is taking on a new mission.
The department gathered Tuesday to wish him well on his upcoming military deployment.
Hatfield is a first lieutenant in the Massachusetts National Guard and is being called to serve, but where his deployment will take him over the next year hasn't been made public.
His colleagues wished him a safe and successful mission and said they looked forward to his return.
