Following a review, the Town of Eastham and the Eastham Elementary School Parents Group have decided to end the Bottles and Cans recycling program, effective October 1st.
The decision to terminate the program was based on insufficient volunteer support and reduced financial return, and continuing the program is no longer sustainable for the Town at this time.
Since 2000, the initiative has supported various EESPG initiatives and the maintenance of the Field of Dreams through revenue raised from the redeemed bottles and cans.
Bottles and cans will continue to be collected through September, but after that, redemption bins will be closed, and residents should place those items in the regular separated recycling bins.
The town is looking for new nonprofit or community groups to take over the program.
