AmeriCorps Cape Cod Secured With Release Of Federal Funds

Barnstable County has confirmed the restoration of federal funding for AmeriCorps Cape Cod.

The government's announcement to release the funds came last week after legal action by a coalition of states including Massachusetts.

Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell says AmeriCorps Cape Cod's current service year will include 18 members starting on September 15th and they will be placed with towns and nonprofit partners across the region.

“The restoration of federal funding is welcome news and a strong showing of support for AmeriCorps,” said County Administrator Michael Dutton. “AmeriCorps Cape Cod never wavered in its service to the community, and we were prepared to carry it forward with a limited number of members. This update reinforces the strength of the program and its impact across Barnstable County.”

After federal support was halted in April, County Commissioners and the Assembly of Delegates acted quickly to preserve the program with County funds to ensure there was no interruption of service.
