High surf and wind advisories are in effect across Barnstable County as Hurricane Erin continues to churn in the Atlantic.
No direct landfall is predicted, but high surf and riptides are expected along ocean-exposed beaches. Yarmouth and Truro are among the locations that have closed their town beaches to swimmers through Saturday due to dangerous water conditions.
A wind advisory is in effect until at least 2 p.m. Friday with northeast winds of 15 to 30-miles-per-hour and gusts of up to 50-miles-per-hour.
The National Weather Service says the high winds could blow down tree limbs and cause some power outages.
The highest winds are expected near Nantucket and the outer portions of Cape Cod.
