A manatee has been spotted in the waters off of Mashpee.
It was first seen near Popponesset Bay on July 26th and MassWildlife says it was spotted on July 29th in Mattapoisett. Manatee are not known to frequent areas as far north of Massachusetts, preferring the warmer waters of Florida.
MassWildlife is in contact with the International Fund for Animal Welfare regarding a potential rescue.
The last time a manatee was seen in the waters off of Cape Cod was in 2016.
