Nantucket Sets Fines For Those Violating Mandatory Town Water Restrictions

The Nantucket Water Commission has set fines for Town water users who violate mandatory use restrictions.

Due to the drought, the commission says a first violation will result in a warning, followed by a 250-dollar fine for a second offense and a 500-dollar fine for a third offense.

If there's a fourth offense, the water will be shut off.

Town water users with odd numbered street addresses may water on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5 p.m. until 9 a.m.

Even numbered addresses may water during the same hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

No lawn irrigation is allowed on Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays.

Residents and businesses on private wells are exempt.
