WNV Detected In Sample Of Mosquitoes In Barnstable

West Nile Virus has been confirmed in a sample of mosquitoes collected in Barnstable.

The town's Public Health Division says it's working closely with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and other agencies to monitor the virus activity.

Officials say you should remove standing water from your property. Use sprays with DEET and wear long sleeves as precautions.

West Nile Virus is most commonly transmitted to humans by the bite of an infected mosquito.
