Juneteenth ceremonies and commemorations will take place across Cape Cod today.
Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 when Union troops freed the last enslaved people in Texas, two-and-a-half years after the Emancipation Proclamation.
In Barnstable, there will be a flag-raising from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the outdoor courtyard at the John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum in Hyannis.
Falmouth is holding a free Juneteenth community celebration from 1 until 5 p.m. at Saint Barnabas Church.
Brewster marks Juneteenth with several events at Drummer Boy Park and in Provincetown, the annual Juneteenth celebration and cookout will be held on the lawn of the Unitarian Universalist Meeting House.
