Tisbury Loses 16K To Wire Fraud

The Town of Tisbury lost 16-thousand-dollars in a wire fraud scam.

The money was supposed to be paid to CR Environmental for a dredge survey, but someone hacked a town employee's e-mail, and the money was wired to a fraudulent account earlier this month.

The town discovered the scam after CR Environmental reported that it had not received the funds.

The town is creating a new policy to prevent similar scams by requiring phone verification for payments.
