Falmouth Select Board Approves Lower Speed Limits On Roads Near Beaches

The Falmouth Select Board approves lower speed limits in a dozen locations near town beaches.

The speed limit will be lowered to 20-miles-per-hour in the "safety zones" after the town's traffic advisory committee noted the need to protect pedestrians and bicyclists, especially during the summer months.

According to CapeNews.net, DPW director Peter McConarty says recreational activity is busier in the summer, but the speed limits will be enforced all year.

He also says the new zones don't have to be approved by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation because they're not state roads.
