Nantucket Appealing Decision Allowing SouthCoast Wind Farm

Nantucket is appealing the decision allowing SouthCoast Wind to start building a wind farm about 20 miles south of the island.

Island attorneys claim the federal government didn't take into account the potential damage to tourism if Nantucket's clear views of the Atlantic Ocean are stained by giant turbines.

Lawyers also cited the National Historic Preservation Act, which requires federal agencies to find ways to avoid harming historic properties before approving projects.

The appeal was filed this week.
