Barnstable Urges Boaters To Use Caution During Cotuit Bay Dredging

Barnstable is urging boaters to use caution during the Cotuit Bay Entrance Channel Dredging Project.

The county's Dredge Sand Shifter is on-site, and more than ten-thousand-feet of pipe is running from the dredge to the eastern edge of Sampsons Island.

Officials say the pipe is submerged at shallow depths and is marked with poly balls to ensure visibility.

The goal of the project is to transfer about 20-thousand-cubic-yards of sand through the pipeline to reconstitute the island's eastern flank.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of November.
