Barnstable County Board of Regional Commissioners Oppose Ballot Question #6

The Barnstable County Board of Regional Commissioners has voted to oppose Question number-six on the November 5th ballot.

If passed, the ballot question would increase the Assembly's power to spend from reserves and commissioners say they had several reasons for opposing it.

Commissioners say the proposal bypassed the long-established Charter Review procedure and it's designed to increase spending for pet projects, pay raises and hiring more staff.

In addition, they say Question number-six is poorly written with few details and it would exempt the Assembly from the state laws governing county expenditures.

The Commissioners say it's bad budget policy that would jeopardize the bond rating and raise costs and assessments for Cape Cod towns.
