The Edgartown select board has appointed Lieutenant Chris Dolby to serve as the town's acting police chief following the retirement of Chief Bruce McNamee.
The town has hired a consultant to lead the search for someone to replace McNamee and applicant resumes are now under review.
Lt. Dolby is among the candidates applying for the job.
No timetable for the naming of a permanent chief have been revealed.
