Harwich Police are mourning the passing of retired Lt. Barry Mitchell who began is career with the department as a Special Police Officer in 1979.
The HPD says Barry quickly raised through the ranks becoming the court prosecutor, patrol sergeant and Detective Lieutenant in charge of the Detective Division for many years.
Barry retired as the Administrative Lieutenant in September of 2014.
Colleagues say Barry was a great cop and an even better detective.
The Department is sending its deepest condolences to Barry's entire family and thanking the Lieutenant for his dedication to the community.
