The Barnstable County Regional Board of Commissioners is applauding Governor Healey for stopping a proposed machine gun range on Joint Base Cape Cod.
On Monday the Governor's Office said she did not approve the signing of a contract for the development of a the gun range because the funding has not been reauthorized, and the project was still undergoing a review.
Opponents of the range have long expressed concerns that the range could contaminate the region's sole-source aquifer.
Commissioner Mark Forest thanks Governor and her staff listening to the concerns of Cape Codders and supporting the effort to protect drinking water supplies.
