Cape Philanthropist Being Honored By United Way

A well-known Cape Cod philanthropist is being honored this fall by the United Way.

The C-and-I chapter plans to bestow the Woman of Impact award upon Maureen Wilkens of Osterville at a ceremony October 16th.

“It is hard to put into words the impact Mrs. Wilkens has had on the Cape community with her generosity and philanthropy,” said Mark Skala, President and CEO of the Cape and Islands United Way. “Though she shuns the spotlight, she and her late husband, Frank, have left an indelible mark on philanthropy on Cape Cod.”

Mrs. Wilkens, who splits her time between Osterville and Palm Beach, deflected any praise when told of the award. She said giving back is something she and her husband always believed was critical.

“I’m very appreciative and this is so nice, but really it is about helping the community,” Mrs. Wilkens said.

Wilkens and her late husband have provided big donations to the Housing Assistance Corporation, Cape Cod Community College and the Cape Cod Hospital Healthcare Foundation, which named its Outpatient Medical Complex after the couple.
