A fatality in the waters off Nantucket is under investigation.
The incident took place just after 4 pm Saturday at Ladies Beach.
The victim identified as a 31-year-old man was found unresponsive in the water by a surfer and lifeguards.
He was taken to Nantucket Cottage Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Earlier that day, all south shore beaches were closed to swimming to rough conditions, including rip currents.
The victim’s identity was not released.
This is the third death at beaches on the island since July 20th.
