Holtec Disappointed By Ruling To Deny Pilgrim Wastewater Discharge

Holtec Decommissioning is disappointed by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection's denial of a permit modification that would have allowed the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station to discharge wastewater into Cape Cod Bay.

Holtec says the treated water has been discharged within safe limits since the plant began operations in 1972 and the denial will continue to delay the decommissioning and economic reuse of the Pilgrim lands.

MassDEP says the Bay is a protected ocean sanctuary and discharge would violate the Ocean Sanctuaries Act.
