All south facing beaches on Nantucket are closed to swimming because of debris and what is described as sharp fiberglass shards.
A blade was damaged on a Vineyard Wind turbine about 15 miles from the island Saturday night.
The company has not disclosed what happened, but said the incident is under investigation.
Vineyard Wind said that so far, three large fragments from the damaged turbine blade have been recovered.
It is unclear how long the recovery team will work the area.
