Former President "Fine" After Campaign Appearance Shooting

The shooting at a rally for former President Donald Trump is now being called "an assassination attempt" by law enforcement. Video from the scene in Butler, Pennsylvania shows a body on the roof of a building about 400 feet away from where the former President was speaking at a campaign rally. Although Donald Trump had blood on his face as he was taken from the stage, the Secret Service says he is safe.

President Biden says he's grateful Donald Trump is safe and doing well after a reported assassination attempt at his campaign rally in Pennsylvania. He said there's no place in America for political violence and called the incident "sick."


Fox News has quoted the former President as saying: "I heard a whizzing sound and felt a bullet rip through my skin."

Some state and local leaders are speaking out.

Governor Healey, in a statement said: “Political violence has no place in this country, and all Americans must condemn it.”

On "X", Springfield Congressman Richard Neal said: "This type of violence is completely unacceptable and has no place in America or our political system. My thoughts are with former President Trump, and I hope that everyone in Butler, PA is safe. "

Worcester Congressman Jim McGovern speaking out on the “assassination attempt” on former president Donald Trump. McGovern on “X” said: There is no place for violence in our country or in our politics, against any political leader or political party. It is always unacceptable and wrong. Praying that everyone is okay.”

Rhode Island Senior Senator Jack Reed on "X" said: "We don’t have all the information about this situation but political violence is unacceptable and never the answer. It appears former President Trump will make a full recovery. We are glad he is safe. More facts will come out and whoever did this must be held accountable."

Law enforcement officials say the gunman, as well as an individual attending the rally are both dead.
