Yarmouth Considers Joining Regional Emergency Call Center

Yarmouth officials say the town has an opportunity to join nearby communities in developing a Regional Emergency Communications Center for incoming 911 calls.

Following a feasibility study, the Towns of Sandwich, Barnstable, and the Hyannis Fire District approved an agreement to seek additional state 911 funding to design and operate a joint emergency communications center.

The study also noted benefits for Yarmouth and the town has been invited to join the agreement.

Under the program, the dispatch staff of Yarmouth and the other towns would be transferred a single, well-equipped emergency call center.

The savings for Yarmouth are estimated at four-point-six-million dollars over the first six years.
