Taxing High Priced Real Estate Hitting Road Block In House

State House Speaker Ron Mariano says a proposed tax on the sale of high priced real estate is not gaining support on Beacon Hill.

Governor Maura Healey's proposal would allow a local tax up to two-percent on property sales over a million-dollars in some counties.

If the tax was in place in Boston in 2021, it would have generated nearly 100-million-dollars towards affordable housing in that year.

Mariano says he's not sure the proposed tax is a solution to the state's housing crisis.
