A short-term mammal rehabilitation center in Orleans has released its first-ever patient.
The adult common dolphin was found stranded on a beach in Brewster and brought to the International Fund for Animal Welfare's new Dolphin Rescue Center.
Diagnosed with shock and other issues, the dolphin received round-the-clock treatment.
IFAW credits the presence of the center, which opened last fall, as the reason the dolphin was saved and returned to the sea.
Volunteers are being sought for a new session, which begins this month.
