Thousands of cellular customers struggled with lack of service on Thursday.
The outages primarily hit AT&T users, starting at around 4:30 a.m. Eastern.
Verizon and T-Mobile customers also reported significant complaints.
The digital tracking site Downdetector recorded 74-thousand outages at its peak.
Locally, Hyannis Fire Chief Peter Burke noted mobile data terminals are used to understand emergencies such as this and locate them.
The fire department had issues with only two of the 50 connected devices.
AT&T reported processing errors caused the outage, and nearly all services have been restored.
The cause, according to officials was because of a software update.
