Oak Bluffs Drops Appeal Of Artificial Surface Field

Oak Bluffs officials have dropped their appeal of plans to install a turf field at an area high school.

An attorney for the planning board recently filed a motion with the Massachusetts Land Court to this effect.

The move ends the board's appeal against Martha's Vineyard Regional High School, and its plans to renovate its athletic facilities and infrastructure.

Part of the project involved the replacement of the field with an artificial surface, which the board rejected.

The Land Court, however, sided with the school district and cited a state law that took priority over the board's powers.

Concerns over the legal costs were among the reasons for the board's decision to end the matter.
