A new stormwater project has been approved by Oak Bluffs' select board.
The University of New Hampshire is leading the project, which will target stormwater runoff on Hudson Avenue, which is directly contaminating Lagoon Pond.
Project manager James Houle says the aim is to build bioretention cells, or shallow depressions to collect the water along with pavement that will allow runoff to return to the ground.
The project is funded by the US Environmental Protection Agency along with MassDOT.
Pending final approval, construction will start next spring.
