Barnstable Town Council Taking Action On Wind Projects

The Barnstable Town Council is taking action on wind projects that are in the portfolio of Avangrid, the company that half-owns Vineyard Wind.

Avangrid ended its contract in Connecticut for Park City Wind, and also pulled out of a Massachusetts contract for Commonwealth Wind.

Both projects could result in power cables landing on Barnstable beaches.

The town council has unanimously voted to rescind authorization for a host community agreement with Commonwealth, and also to postpone officially signing off on certain easements for Park City until the status is resolved.

Meanwhile, The Cape Cod Times reports Vineyard Wind is expected to become the first major commercial wind farm in the United States after turbines began shipping to the site last month.
