A group of lawmakers have written to Governor Maura Healey about her state of emergency declaration last month due to the rising numbers migrant families who need shelter.
The legislators say the housing crisis has existed in Massachusetts for many years, and they receive frequent contact from constituents who have been on waiting lists for years.
They claim that the current rise of illegal immigrants coming to Massachusetts will cause an even-greater strain on the system.
Fifth Barnstable District Representative Steven Xiarhos was among those who signed the letter.
