SSA Head: We Were Lucky There Was No Loss Of Life

The Steamship Authority is providing more details on what caused a ferry to break loose from its dock last month.

The M/V Sankaty escaped from its dock in the Falmouth terminal and came to rest at the nearby Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution slip on July 27th.

The Martha's Vineyard Times reports Steamship Authority Bob Davis said at a meeting on Tuesday, that they were very fortunate there was no loss of life, injuries or serious damage.

Davis said a rope connecting the freight vessel to the dock slipped off.

He said changes have been made in response to the incident, including modified training procedures.
