Major props are going out to a Wampanoag chef.
Sherry Pocknett, who serves up dishes from her culture at the Rhode Island restaurant she owns, won the James Beard Award for Best Chef Northeast.
Pocknett opened the Sly Fox Den Too in Charlestown in 2021 as a spin-off of her Connecticut-based catering business.
She grew up on Cape Cod and learned her craft at The Flume restaurant, which was owned by extended family.
Pocknett beat out four other finalists for the honor, including two from Boston.
