A popular retailer that got its start on Cape Cod 50 years ago is seeking bankruptcy protection in a restructuring effort.
Christmas Tree Shops filed for Chapter 11 on Friday and revealed on Sunday that its stores in Sagamore and Falmouth will be closing by the end of June due to sagging sales.
Employees of those stores will be offered jobs at the retailer's other Cape Cod locations in Orleans, Hyannis and West Dennis.
Workers who lose their jobs at the two stores will be able to get jobs at other stores in the chain.
The company says rising interest rates, inflation and a dip in consumer demand are the major factors that led to the bankruptcy filing.
