Sandwich officials think it is unlikely that the existing boardwalk tourist attraction will be fully reconstructed after last weekend's blizzard left it in pieces.
The Enterprise reports the Assistant Town Manager said at a Select Board meeting on Thursday that the damage done to the boardwalk was extensive, and the cost to repair it would be significant.
A notice has been posted that the boardwalk, which led people across marshland to Town Neck Beach, is unsafe.
The town is planning to distribute planks that were engraved with people's names as keepsakes.
It is also working to expedite the process of constructing a new boardwalk.
