Kari MacRae, the Bourne School Committee member who made controversial statements on social media about gender identity and critical race theory, is suing the employer who fired her after the comments were made.
MacRae was fired by the Hanover School District from her job as a math and business teacher at the high school.
The federal lawsuit she filed alleges her free speech rights were violated. Hanover Superintendent Matthew Ferron told the Boston Globe the district was exercising its 90-day dismissal option under state law.
