Biden Bans Fishing In Northeast Seamounts

The Biden administration is banning commercial fishing in the northeast canyons and seamounts, an area that is about 150 miles off Cape Cod.

Biden made the move via Executive Order on Friday; it reverses a Trump administration policy.

The ban was initially imposed by the Obama administration then reversed by Trump.

Environmental groups are applauding the move; fishing industry advocates say the new ban, which bans crab and lobster harvesting, will significantly impact the catch of those species as well as tuna and swordfish.

The new policy will be phased in through 2023.
