Harwich Fire Department Switches Firefighting Foam Formula

The Harwich Fire Department, in an effort to reduce PFAS contamination in the Cape’s water supply, is switching to a new type of firefighting foam that does not contain the pollutants.

The foam is commonly used to fight fuel spills and related fires.

The department has switched to a new class of firefighting foam which fire officials say is 100% biodegradable.

Harwich Fire has also disposed of all of the foams that contain PFAS.
