Dog Tags From Korean War Veteran Recovered In Buzzards Bay

A metal detector hobbyist has found and returned the lost dog tags of a now deceased Air Force veteran to his family.

The hobbyist, named John, was sifting through the sand on Little Harbor Beach in Buzzards Bay on Saturday when he found Richard Porter’s tags.

John called up his grandson, Daniel Minkle to tell him the news.

Porter died in 2018, and was known locally as the "Thermometer Man," running the world's largest thermometer museum until his death. He served in the Korean War.
