Nero's Law Goes To Public Hearing

A bill filed by State Rep Steve Xiarhos will be taken up in a public hearing tomorrow by the Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security.

The bill will provide emergency assistance to police dogs injured in the line of duty.

Nero’s Law, named for the K-9 injured during the 2018 incident that saw Yarmouth Police Sgt. Sean Gannon killed, would allow first responders to assist injured K9’s as they would treat and transport a human.

They are currently prohibited from providing that aid or transporting the animals by ambulance.
