Falmouth Man Accused Of Witness Intimidation Found Dead

A Cape Cod man facing criminal charges for allegedly trying to cover for his son, who was one of two teens accused of beating another unconscious at a party last year, died yesterday.

The father, Daren McDonald, was found dead in his home on Thursday morning, Falmouth police chief Edward Dunne tells The Enterprise newspaper.

The death is being investigated, but is not considered suspicious.

McDonald, a local businessman, pleaded not guilty to charges of intimidating a witness in March for allegedly misleading police and telling other parents to corroborate a story that his son was not at the party.

The case received further attention when several former students of color raised questions about unequal discipline treatment since the two teens accused of the beating, who are white, continued to attend play sports for Falmouth High School and attend class.
