Federal Appeals Court Denies Latest Wampanoag Casino Request

A federal appeals court has denied the latest effort from the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head in its fight to construct a casino on tribal land with no town regulatory strings attached.

A panel of judges on the U.S. First Circuit Court of Appeals previously ruled the tribe must obtain building permits from the town of Aquinnah for a planned bingo hall.

The tribe’s request for a review from the entire court and not just the panel, was shot down on Monday.
