Steampship Authority Hampered By Covid-19

Officials at the Woods Hole, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket Steamship Authority say they are grateful for the attention their plight is getting in Washington.

They say that the federal effort to provide emergency ferry service nationwide provides one possible solution to funding challenges locally. And, officials say that until there is a concrete solution they will continue to run the operation in the most cost effective manner possible.

"The Authority" has lost a million dollars a week since the pandemic began.

State officials say although the legislature created the service, this is a federal funding issue.
